Košice to Bratislava

There are no pictures for this day. It was spent traveling to the capital, Bratislava.

The day started inauspiciously with light rain, but fortunately I arrived at the station before it got heavy. I killed some time buying a few things from the Lidl, including a sub sandwich for lunch on the train. The travel time was around 6 hours, but fortunately my service was an Intercity so the carriages were modern and comfortable. You can see some pictures of their carriages on the Slovak Railways site.

The rain had stopped following me by the time I got to Bratislava. The pension I had selected was walking distance to the east of the railway station which is to the north of the city centre. Bratislava is not a populous city, only about half a million inhabitants so most places in the city are walking distance. However the route to the pension went through a run-down neighbourhood. Not in the sense of personal danger, but potholed road, unkempt verges, that sort of thing.

The pension on the other hand was an oasis of tidiness and serenity, and the room was comfortable. One of the first things I had to do was to get my laundry done. I had located a laundromat, but I had to go there by tram. Fortunately this was straightforward with the help of online information. The girl at the counter was a bubbly person, always cheerful. They also had a coffee shop in the laundromat so it was easy to pass the time. It took a couple of hours to wash and dry, so by the time I emerged, it was dark.

I made my way back to the pension by tram. I had a pizza and a beer at a pizzeria near the pension. It was passable but quite a lot to finish. Then I called it a night and rested to start my explorations the next morning.
