Bratislava — Old Town

The downhill bus dropped me close to the old town. Bratislava has only about half a million inhabitants so is reasonably compact.

I thought this water feature interesting but there seems to be no information on it online.
This is one of the main shopping streets, Obchodná, with tram line 1.
This has the long name of Old Cathedral of Saint John of Matha and Saint Felix of Valois. Possibly longer than the building.

The busy intersection near Michael's Gate, the only city gate that has been preserved. It dates from around 1300.
The portal that is the gate.
Inside the gate.
Looking back at the portal and the tower above it.
They love tourists here.
Good times.
I'd been in Czechia and Slovakia long enough to know that divadlo means theatre.
Further down on a side street is the side of St. Martin's Cathedral, previously viewed from the castle.
Another walking street, either Kostolná or Panská.
Which led to the Main Square.
You'll see later what they were going to do with the inflatable.

At this point I detoured into a Lidl supermarket for about 45 minutes to do a bit of shopping.
Umbrella street.
Stará Tržnica means old market hall but it is only open on Saturdays.
I was looking for a typical Slovak meal and I chose to have it at the Krčma na Zelenej. My meal was pork belly with red cabbage. Because it came with soup and bread, it was very filling so I got value for my splurge.

I also grabbed a nice pastry and coffee on the main drag, Námestie 1. mája, on the way back to the pension.
Just as well I was walking all the way back; I could work off that large meal and dessert. This is the sculpture of a linden flower at Freedom Square. With a name and shape like that it would date from the Communist era, and indeed Wikipedia confirms that it was built around 1980. It's awaiting future plans.
